Girls Can Do I.T. app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: Kathleen Kalata
First release : 03 Apr 2017
App size: 46.3 Mb
There are apps related to facts about women in computing, women in computing conferences, coding for young people and some clubs, but there were are no local programs in the many rural areas such as the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. We created this app that will hopefully fill this gap for girls who are interested in computer science and hopefully provide them with information and resources to help them learn about the technology careers and educational opportunities. This will hopefully open the conversation about careers for women in computing sciences and help girls connect with professors and other professionals in computer science careers. With over 50% of STEM jobs in computer science, its important for girls to know the opportunities that are available to them if they choose to study computer science.
About the App:
The app will open with the main screen where you can choose between Michigan and National. Under the Michigan portion there opens a new menu like screen where you can choose between taking a quiz about women in computing, reading about colleges, MCWT, MICWIC and local women in IT careers. In the National section you can take another quiz, as well as find links to career information, job-related web sites, professional organizations and read about 50 women in technology careers to help inspire you!
The information in the app is publicly available. What is unique is that we put the information together in a compact application to help girls, teachers, counselors and parents who might be interested in learning about information technology careers.
